Spending on security
does not know the crisis
While the IT industry as a whole is strongly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the security segment should generate 6% growth in value in 2020. A performance made possible by the dynamism of services.
Against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, most business sectors have reduced their IT investments, regardless of the technologies made available to them by suppliers. According to IDC, the security segment should nevertheless evolve against the current of the rest of the IT market. Boosted by the increase in teleworking and the expansion of the number of threats and regulations, worldwide sales of software, hardware and services for the protection of information systems are expected to represent $125.2 billion in 2020. A figure that would thus be up 6% over one year. To top it all off, the IT security industry should also benefit from the looming economic recovery for years to come. It should generate an average annual growth of 8.1% until 2024 to weigh $174.7 billion on that date.
Strong increase in managed services
Security services will be the main contributors to this medium-term growth. From 2020 to 2024, the turnover they generate will experience an average annual increase of 10.5%. They will thus represent almost half of the revenues of the global computer security market over the same period. Managed services are expected to be the most dynamic segment of the security services market, followed by integration services and consulting services. By 2024, their average annual growth is expected to be 13.6%.
